A TRIBUTE TO NG LA BANDA & JOSÉ LUIS “EL TOSCO” CORTÉS
Directed by Calixto Oviedo
NG La Banda, founded by the legendary José Luis “El Tosco” Cortés, revolutionized Cuban popular music and became one of the driving forces behind the birth of Cuban Timba.
With its explosive rhythm section, legendary “Metales del Terror,” extensive discography, and appearances at major festivals and stages throughout Europe, Asia, the United States, and Latin America, NG La Banda created a powerful new sound that influenced generations of musicians and brought Cuban music to audiences around the world.
This special tribute is led by Calixto Oviedo, original member and drummer of NG La Banda, who was part of the group during one of its most influential periods. Now based in Miami, Oviedo brings together an outstanding group of Miami musicians to celebrate the music, energy, and extraordinary legacy of NG La Banda and its visionary founder, José Luis Cortés.
The evening will bring back the unmistakable sound and energy of an unforgettable era, featuring classics such as “La Fiera,” “Santa Palabra,” “El Trágico,” “La Bruja,” “No Te Vires con Ficha,” “Échale Limón,” and many more of the greatest hits that made NG La Banda legendary.
A celebration of the music that changed the sound of Cuba — and made the world dance.
